Hey all, as someone who used Opensolaris back in 2009, and Linux since then, what's the state of OpenIndiana or another Illumos "distribution" compared to a modern Linux desktop, eg Fedora which I'm currently running? All the screenshots I see show it running MATE. Is it a modern version of MATE? Are we on X11 or have we switched to Wayland? I have rose-tinted goggles for OpenSolaris, as it was my

first non-Windows OS I used full time.

I think the focus is pretty solidly on server stuff, yeah

SmartOS, OmniOS, & Helios, have been some of the more well-funded distributions and they're all server things

Mind you, it's not like it would be impossible to do, e.g., the graphics work

It's just that the people who complain the loudest about how out of date it all is never seem to be willing to stump up and do the actual software work haha
