WTF is this bullshit that completely normal software like Nextcloud, Paperless and Jellyfin now pulls in nvidia-kmod as mandatory dependency? Is FreeBSD going to the loony bin as well now?
-
nimaje
do you have it installed currently? you can ask pkg about the dependency graph, e.g. with
paste.debian.net/plainh/0d0788c6 and look what chain pulls it in
-
nimaje
ah, well in that case pkg query '%rn' <package name> is probably better to see the reverse dependencies directly, but the kmod shouldn't have any as far as I know
-
zilti
No, the kmods are not currently installed, but "pkg upgrade" tries to install them. I could also completely wipe the jail and do a fresh install, then it won't try to install them - but on the next "pkg upgrade", the issue will be back again.
-
karolyi
zilti: I don't think it's nextcloud. I have it installed in a jail and that kmod is not pulled.
-
karolyi
I'd find it crazy if it were
-
zilti
karolyi: well it's wayland. Not a hard requirement for nextcloud, but one for paperless-ngx (and jellyfin, but that software is a mess anyways)
-
zilti
So I guess I can't run paperless-ngx in a jail anymore
-
nimaje
zilti: My guess would be that it is some pkg bug and it wants to install some unrelated package for some reason, can you open a problem report?
-
zilti
nimaje: I'll look into it, yes
-
zilti
Upgrading Vaultwarden tries to install two different mysql-client and four different postgresql-client versions, also making upgrading vaultwarden impossible
-
scoobybejesus
maybe look at the end of pkg -vv to see if you happen to have quarterly and latest both enabled zilti
-
f451
hi, is pkg being broken on -current a known issue ?
-
rtprio
f451: is it?
-
CrtxReavr
Does someone run a jellyfin server with the FreeBSD port/package?
-
ibs
CrtxReavr: Yes, I recently started testing it.
-
CrtxReavr
ibs, I'm strugglign with the stupidest of things. . ..
-
ek
CrtxReavr: I've been running Jellyfin for a while. What's up?
-
CrtxReavr
It's running (via rc.conf) and I can connect to its web console on port 8096, but what account am I suppose to use to log into it?
-
CrtxReavr
It created and runs as a 'jellyfin' user, and I've set a password for it, but that gets me nowhere.
-
ek
CrtxReavr: When you first access the web UI, it should prompt you to set up the service including the "admin" account.
-
ek
Then, you would log in with that.
-
CrtxReavr
It did not.
-
CrtxReavr
There someway to reset it to some baseline?
-
ek
Well, I'd imagine you can uninstall and wipe out the DB and just start fresh. Sure.
-
CrtxReavr
ek, well. . . that worked.
-
ek
Excellent!
-
CrtxReavr
I must have done that when I first installed it sometime ago and forgotten when I actaully tried to use it in ernest.
-
ek
It's possible. I hope you didn't put in too much work just to start over again.
-
CrtxReavr
(Plex finally went ahead with their threats to charge you monthy to watch your own content after I already paid for their various apps.)
-
ek
I do like Jellyfin. The only downside is the Apple TV app support. There is a new one coming along (Stingray), but it still has a long way to go.
-
ek
I have Plex as well. I liked it. But, they have done some weird stuff.
-
ek
Plex works well on FBSD, too.
-
ek
I haven't seen any charge threats, though.
-
CrtxReavr
Well, I've used a FreeBSD plex server in the past with no issuse.
-
CrtxReavr
But my main plex server was window, and it very recently started telling me "remote playback" was a subscription feature.
-
CrtxReavr
I feel like I've used plex for 20 years. . .
-
rtprio
i hate the idea of paying this unknown entity to stream my own files on my own network
-
topcat001
Did anyone try swiftfin?
-
rtprio
CrtxReavr: you can reset the admin password, which drops a file on the filesystem with the password
-
topcat001
I also primarily use Plex, but only for local playback. The metadata system/matching is more robust.
-
CrtxReavr
I have zero need for local playback. .. I want to stream to chromecast from my phone or use the "app" on my TV.
-
rtprio
i use the app on my tv, for jellyfin
-
CrtxReavr
That's my plan.
-
ek
topcat001: I've tried just about everything out there as far as clients go. The actual Jellyfin app for iOS, Android, Linux, Windows, etc is actually pretty decent and does everything I need.
-
ek
Only Apple TV apps are CRAZY lacking.
-
rtprio
wholphin works great on androidtv
-
spork_css_
CtrxReavr: are you getting the "remote playback" message when using it at home on the same network?
-
spork_css_
(I have the lifetime sub, so I'm sticking with it for now, I assume Jellyfin will catch up in the coming years)
-
spork_css_
hate the login system... I remember the days when you could install it, install an app on your streaming box and just have it autodiscover your server
-
topcat001
ek: I haven't swiftfin yet. Need to revive my Jellyfin instance. My ATV is hooked up to my main system where I watch stuff.
-
ek
topcat001: Swiftfin is pretty useless.
-
ek
I wish it wasn't. Of course, I haven't messed with it in a while. Maybe it's been updated and is better now.
-
ek
So far, Stingray appears to be the best option. But, it can't do sub-directories at the moment. So, it only picks up on certain things.
-
ek
Most stuff works, though. And the interface is nice.
-
topcat001
cool thanks
-
f451
rtprio: fixed by "doas rm -rvf pkg ports" in /var/db
-
f451
by "fixed" i mean i need to note all whats installed in /usr/local and reinstall
-
drathir_tor
CrtxReavr: maybe instead of use direct video+audio share \ try search minidlna players alternatives if there any...
-
drathir_tor
CrtxReavr: as long as chromecast support dlna or have app for that...
-
rdr
I say we send out a bunch of agents to check everything, I just need a few billion dollars

I'm having connectivity issues with shared ip jails on bastille. Can't seem to get them to connect to the internet. I thought it was a wireguard problem because disabling wg would work, but now it doesn't seem to work even without a wg vpn connection. I honestly have no idea how to debug this lol
-
alem
i think i fixed it, the bastille setup command is a little buggy. Apparently the jails table that it generated on pf.conf was not being populated and the nat was only configured for the $ext_if
-
mns
nice!
-
mns
Good to know.
-
alem
gave me headaches lol
