the binary packages are essentially just a cache of built ports... they're not the primary distribution method like how it is in most Linux systems. you can always check out an old ports release (there should be a tag for 12 eol) and build them yourself

On a FreeBSD server upgraded to 14.4 with OpenZFS 2.2.9, setting vfs.zfs.arc.max="34359738368" eventually leads to severe system slowdown. Processes begin using 100% CPU, and even basic operations such as removing log files from /var/log/nginx/ become extremely slow. As soon as I raise vfs.zfs.arc.max to 68719476736, CPU usage returns to normal immediately and overall responsiveness is restored. I did not observe this behavior on FreeBSD 14.3 with

I installed cinnamon on FreeBSD 15 Release in a VM by following these instructions: docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/desktop

but after restarting the VM it still boots up in command line

when you have edit .xinitrc start X (and cinommon) with startx

wsky: Well, my first step would be to verify php-fpm is running and listening on whatever port/socket you have configured.

Then, I would check the configuration for the php-fpm socket permissions or process ownership to verify whatever web server software you're using has access.

And, I would follow up by verifying that the web server/PHP script/whatever is using the correct information for FPM.

This isn't a FBSD issue, though. This is a PHP/web server configuration issue.

whats the easiest way to do mDNS in freebsd? found avahi and openmdns and decided to try the latter, but it's a bit tricky to get it working correctly

Xinayder: its not that tricky.. just install avahi-app nss_mdns packages.. and be sure that all of your LAN PCs names should end with .local e.g hostname.local

hmm... mDNS relies on multicast traffic, which standard "shared-IP" jails cannot receive.

have to work on vnet.. If both the host and the jail run Avahi on the same interface, they will conflict, so run Avahi only in the jail or use separate physical/virtual interfaces.

i have recently found one package bastille, i think it easy to setup avahi from it with in Jail.. i also try it. :)

there were some quirks in my setup, like my web server wasn't turned on after a reboot... once it turned on the avahi-publish worked
