ivy
dch: you're core, right? do you have a sec for a PM?
-
impulse
where is PS1 set? i have it set in /etc/profile, but it looks like it's being overwritten when i invoke bash.
-
ivy
impulse: you may have a $HOME/.shrc file which sets it, this is created automatically from /usr/share/skel
-
impulse
oh i do. thanks ivy.
-
CrtxReavr
or ~/.bashrc
-
CrtxReavr
Or /usr/local/profile
-
CrtxReavr
whoops
-
CrtxReavr
Or /usr/local/etc/profile
-
CrtxReavr
Or /usr/local/etc/bashrc
-
CrtxReavr
bash kinda loves config file possiblities.
-
CrtxReavr
Also ~/.bash_profile
-
impulse
/usr/local/etc/bashrc doesn't seem to work
-
impulse
also /etc/profile.d/* doesn't seem to be executed when i `su`
-
CrtxReavr
su -
-
CrtxReavr
'su' is just become root.
-
CrtxReavr
'su -' is be root and load root's login config.
-
CrtxReavr
/usr/local/etc/profile is for bash logins.
-
CrtxReavr
/usr/local/etc/bashrc and ~/.bashrc is for non-login bash executions.
-
CrtxReavr
Caveat: It's common for peope to add a close to their bash login config like:
bpa.st/3V6KI
-
impulse
in their ~/.bashrc?
-
impulse
so when i open a new terminal in xorg that counts as a non-login?
-
CrtxReavr
Usually, yes.
-
impulse
`su -` doesn't look like it executes /etc/profile.d/* either
-
CrtxReavr
But some terminals have a runtime or config option to launch a login shell.
-
impulse
i'm using rxvt-unicode. is there a good BSD licensed alternative?
-
wavefunction
alacritty, foot, quite a few MIT/BSD licensed terminals
-
SponiX
I'm team KDE Plasma, and just use Konsole
-
divlamir
foot and wezterm here :)
-
divlamir
Still no SMP, SponiX ?
-
» kenrap silently tosses in ghostty as an alternative
-
SponiX
divlamir: no, hoping to post a new screen shot or two tomorrow of it failing to boot and add that to the bug report
-
SponiX
divlamir: I'm debating actually swapping out my board/cpu/ram for a different set to see if that cures it. the Asus X99 Sabertooth boards all died for other folks years ago, and mine quit retaining the UEFI settings if it loses power (yes I've swapped in a fresh battery)
-
CrtxReavr
What's wrong with rxvt-unicode?
-
CrtxReavr
BTW, urxvt doesn't do a full login shell unless you start it with -ls
-
nimaje
why would a treminal emulator started from a graphical session start a login shell?
-
CrtxReavr
People have their reasons.
-
CrtxReavr
But it's a non-default option, so. . . what do you care?
-
mns
Doesn't that decide how your shell startup scripts are processed?
-
CrtxReavr
Yeah.
-
kindrobot
neither vscode nor vscodium is in pkg. is the only options ports or is there an unofficial pkg mirror somewhere that has vscode/codium?
-
rtprio
it looks like it was broken for 14, but available for 15,16
-
rtprio
what's wrong with the port
-
kindrobot
electron as a dependency means that compiling from ports may take up to a day on my lil laptop
-
rtprio
well, `make install-missing-packages` might save you some time
-
kindrobot
ahh
-
kindrobot
didn't know about that one
-
kindrobot
rtprio: how did you look to see that 14 was broken but 15 and 16 have it?
-
rtprio
-
kindrobot
oh, thanks!
-
kindrobot
result of make install-missing-packages
-
kindrobot
pkg-static: No packages available to install matching 'devel/electron37' have been found in the repositories
-
rtprio
are you on 14?
-
kindrobot
yeah
-
kindrobot
15 is in alpha right now, yeah?
-
rtprio
pre-release
-
kevans
alpha, yes
-
kevans
stable/15 went to alpha4 overnight
-
mzar
only one week and it will be STABLE
-
mzar
there is a nuance regarding "rdr pass" in PF rules between FreeBSD 14 and 15
-
mzar
but it's not a bug
-
rtprio
a bug is just a feature with the confidence to ruin your day
-
jozan
hi, i've got some Shared object "libtinfow.so.9" not found, required by "libedit.so.8" after upgrading some jails from 14.0 to 14.3, is that common?
-
jozan
they won't start!
-
rtprio
sounds like they need rebuilt
-
jozan
yea sadly
-
CrtxReavr
Or kludge past with libmap.conf
-
CrtxReavr
Just don't start putting symlinks in lib directories.
-
jaredj
anyone done netgraph in a jail?
-
jaredj
noice, it initially appears to just work, when using vnet=new for the jail of course
