what could be causing sound distortion in some websites ? could it be a recent executed update ?
-
hernan
only youtube sounds fine
-
hernan
seems to be a browser issue
-
randombit
hi there.
-
randombit
can someone give me a hint? when i tried to attach my volume with geli, it gave me an error=1. can copy the exact output bc i restarted and now it works fortunately. what is erro=1? (and where could i look it up)
-
randombit
*cant
-
randombit
thankyou in advance.
-
V_PauAmma_V
If these are standard error numbers (don't know whether GELI uses them), 1 is EPERM. See: man errno
-
randombit
interesting. thanks V_PauAmma_V . now i thought maybe i tried to attach it without root permission so i checked. but it gives other message, and not this error=1 one. therefore the question still stands, and i would like to know, bc i would be not so happy if i lost all my data.
-
V_PauAmma_V
If you see the message again, try writing it down verbatim (with suitable redaction). That would help. Meanwhile, wait for someone who knows geli to look in. Maybe they'll be able to answer.
-
randombit
V_PauAmma_V, yea sure. thankyou again. and it was very short, like "geli cannot attach _volume_ (error=1)" --(like this) wanted to copy it but i was too worried and quickly did a reboot.
-
V_PauAmma_V
OK, lemme see if something jumps out reading the source code. What FreeBSD version are you running?
-
randombit
V_PauAmma_V, 13.1
-
V_PauAmma_V
Nothing jumps out to me, but my source code reading ability is limited.
-
randombit
V_PauAmma_V, well thank you anyways for your response :). will stay here for a while then.

hernan: don’t use pulse audio

mage
can I create a zpool on top of multiple ZVOL in FreeBSD ZFS implementation?
-
cpet
So basically a bunch of disks pool ?
-
mage
cpet: yes
-
mage
currently I have a "big machine" which exports a lot of ZVOL throuhg iSCSI, it works well but it's a SPOF (even if it's replicated every 5 min through zrepl) and it's a pain every time I have to upgrade (from one OS release to another for example)
-
cpet
I have two non raided pools and one being just a homefs
-
mage
so I was thinking of exporting a ZVOL from two machines and create a zpool mirror on top on the client
-
mage
but.. I remember reading (a long time ago) that it's a recipe for deadlocks
-
cpet
I don’t take I to account half the crap said in here or what’s read online as each persons use case is different and I don’t have the patience to be told the same thing 35 times when one person can reply
-
mage
crap?
-
cpet
Yeap
-
mage
I don't follow you
-
mage
what's wrong by having server1 and server2 exporting a ZVOL each and a zpool mirror over those on server3? you could get high availability and upgrade server1 and/or server2 easily
-
meena
mage: what do you mean by "exporting a ZVOL"?
-
mage
through iSCSI
-
cpet
Nothing except you mentioning it here instead of actually doing it ?
-
cpet
Send receive does work now
-
mage
well, I'm looking for advices and feedback from people who actually tried such thing
-
mage
it seems to work on the theorical side but I guess there may be dragons
-
cpet
Sounds same to me but I’m a home user with only 5 files which are important not 5tb of emails customers have asked similar things
-
angry_vincent
dch_: do you use both META_MODE and CCACHE when building system?
-
cpet
Isn’t that exp?
-
cpet
Doing a -j 32 and adding ccache builds kernel and world in around 15 mins
-
cpet
The nve kinda improves those number a bit
-
idwer
CCACHE is kind of pointless with META_MODE imho
-
cpet
Never used meta ibstay away from things that say experimental
-
cpet
Even though I’m using current
-
cpet
As I’ve always built and pipe it to mail and just wait for an email rather than sit and watch
-
yuripv
where does it say "experimental"?
-
pertho
does FreeBSD have a gui network manager like NetworkManager or wicd? I think NomadBSD or GhostBSD has one?

pertho: wifimgr ?

TFOZ
Evening. Do we have an postfix <-> blacklistd expert here. I am using postfix and fail2ban. I get constant log messages " postfix/smtpd[61135]: bl_init: connect failed for /var/run/blacklistd.sock.. Yes becaus iI don't want to start the blacklistd service. I don't want the 2 systems to "interfere". How can I tell postfix not to use blacklistd? Thx for any pointer
-
Kalten
&NULL ;-)
-
Kalten
scnr
-
meena
Kalten: that's a very invalid (undefined) pointer
-
meena
TFOZ: why is fail2ban trying to connect to blacklistd?
-
TFOZ
no. smtpd is trying to connect to blacklistd. I am aware that direct comm to blacklistd might be the better solution but i have a log parsing fail3ban config that has worked for years. If i turn on blacklistd both "methods" are beeing triggert and activate rules in pf .... and thats not what I want
-
TFOZ
AHH ok it is a build option turned on in the pkg. I would have to build it from port with blacklistd disabled ...
-
TFOZ
turned on in default build in 2020 :-)
-
meena
TFOZ: that's like 30 Internet years ago
-
TFOZ
Not measured in "email-technologie-time" there thing younger than 10 year are considered "technical preview" :-)
-
meena
well, except Spam prevention stuff
-
pertho
whoa.. WINE 8.0 is out. Any ideas when it'll land in FreeBSD? :D
-
pertho
looks like almost all the PE stuff is done. That's amazing.
-
mason
PE?
-
thorre
To me PE is Provider Edge ;-)
-
nacelle
PE is "Physical Education"
-
nacelle
sheesh
-
mason
Wine can be sugary, so having a way to work it off can't hurt.
-
la_mettrie
at least it's not an emulator. that would be hard to swallow
-
pertho
mason: heh
-
pertho
depends on the wine
-
mason
White, say.
-
mason
I don't really know wines so that's about as fancy as I can get.

basically: I really enjoy that we have solid kernel APIs, and keep migrating stuff to it
-
pertho
hmm.. is pkg autoremove meant to be accurate? It wants to remove packages that I don't want it to necessarily remove.
-
pertho
it wants to remove xf86-input-keyboard, xf86-input-libinput, and xf86-input-mouse which I'm pretty sure would break X
-
pertho
weird
-
souji
you can list all packages which need one package with pkg info -r
-
meena
pertho: which version of pkg?
-
souji
On my system xf86-input-keyboard is needed by xorg-drivers-7.7_7 ...
-
pertho
meena: 1.19.0
-
V_PauAmma_V
Which is in turn required by xorg-7.7_3. What does "pkg info -r xf86-input-keyboard" return for you? (And same for the other two.)
-
pertho
I uninstalled xorg-drivers because it installed xf86-video-vesa which, for some reason, interferes with X startup which actually uses the intel framebuffer driver
-
souji
pertho: ok then thats why^^
-
pertho
pkg info -r xf86-input-keyboard shows: "xf86-input-keyboard-1.9.0_5:"
-
pertho
is there a way to blacklist the vesa driver so it won't load? I don't mind having it installed but I don't want it to load when X starts
-
souji
Can you just this 3 packages with pkg?
-
V_PauAmma_V
Uh. Time to run "pkg update -f", I think. It may be your local packages and dependencies database went wrong.
-
souji
Then they should not be remove when runing pkg autoremove
-
V_PauAmma_V
(Note "update", not "upgrade".)
-
pertho
V_PauAmma_V: ran pkg update -f .. pkg info -r xf86-input-keyboard still shows same output
-
V_PauAmma_V
Uh. Maybe a secondary effect of what souji said, then.
-
Grabunhold_
i'm trying to write an init script for the ergo irc server using daemon(8). i cant seem to find any flag to chdir somewhere besides root before starting the child process, am I missing something?
-
V_PauAmma_V
See ${name}_chroot in rc.subr(8).

V_PauAmma_V: ah, thanks

sir pettie
-
ketas
so i managed to get fbsd running on nanopi neo core emmc
-
ketas
it's a hack
-
cpet
tried it on a pi didint work so well so my whole plan of making some shit turn on and off in my house went to null
-
cpet
even netbsd had issues on it heh
-
cpet
so never bothered to mess with anything *\pi*
-
ketas
pi eh
-
ketas
r?
-
ketas
i somehow bought 13 of them
-
cpet
drunk or high ?
-
crash_
fbsd is fine on the pi
-
cpet
you are entitled to your opinion
-
ketas
none, i was worried that they run out and i don't have enough if i want to make prototypes of those industrial stuff i was planning to build
-
ketas
but now supply is back
-
ketas
bit extra priced :)
-
crash_
it seems stable on my rpi's so yeah it's my opinion
-
ketas
now it's tiny cute thing
-
cpet
all sold out so I cant try again
-
crash_
you need a good power supply for your pi's and after that they are humming along

well you can get others
-

fuck rpi
-

orangepi
-
ketas
h3 based stuff goes around still
-
cpet
<h3>stuff</h3>
-
ketas
but is h3 watchdog actually only doing 16s timeouts?
-
cpet
i have a HP PC dedicated as a router
-

so really dont need them pi's
-
ketas
they are handy as io/sensor

-

-

upgrade your firmware
-

but the orange 5 looks nice and power full
-
ketas
how hahaha
-
cpet
version 9867xdfgsf34$^@^&dgfgasf1 B is out
-
ketas
bbb had nice longer time
-
ketas
who knows, maybe i can afford executing shit every 16s
-
cpet
then I look at the price and go hrm no
-
ketas
it's so short that how do i even boot
-
V_PauAmma_V
meena, I didn't know use of pkgbase could be relevant. Clearly I need to get out more. Or perhaps less.
-
crash_
bbb=beaglebone black?
-
ketas
yeah
-
cpet
ketas: drink some more Mana shakes and ?
-
ketas
hah
-

i have one of these laying around
-

i have too, still doesn't boot current i think

someone busted it

someone always does
-
ketas
13 works, no worries
-
ketas
i should try connecting eth to my board
-
ketas
it has no ethernet transformer so
-

i think i have fbsd 12 on mine still working

oh you did't mean me haha
-
cpet
thats just shipping the device is 144 for 16gb version
-

and I dont buy things from AMzon or ALI so that limits my chances of getting a orange pi
-
ketas
back then opi actually was that low
-
ketas
it was below 10 even
-
ketas
somebody got them at like 6 with somewhat bigger order
-
ketas
6 eur
-
ketas
opi0
-

bye me one you bastard
-

-
ketas
but i somehow though too expensive and no use eh
-

now it's expensive :P
-
cpet
yeah
-
crash_
6 eur is a good price though
-
ketas
rpi prices are are you fucking kidding me
-
ketas
or were
-
ketas
like 200
-
ketas
or no stock :]
-
ketas
:)
-
cpet
yeap
-
ketas
so suddenly 35 eur a board is cheap
-
crash_
risc-v boards seems fun but they are not supported for long until they release a new board.

let charge higher so we can afford paying our CEO 345billion
-
ketas
well yes h3, no eth port, but 8g flash
-
ketas
512m ram and so on
-
ketas
if that fits you
-
ketas
more powerful stuff costs more

why dont I just buy a antique 386

atleast I can play doom and myst on the thing

irc bot, warez indexer, irc quote database maybe come up first, did general fbsd sysadmin too to keep them up
-
ketas
and no wonder i do embedded because before computer i did electronics
-

cool
-

tubes computers and such?
-
ketas
simpler
-
ketas
but i took my contraptions to preschool even
-
ketas
to show
-
ketas
suuure, they were simpler
-
ketas
i don't think tubes were much of a thing in 90s
-
ketas
that doesn't mean i didn't apart stuff with them or read books
-
crash_
tubes was in the 60's and 70's
-
ketas
well later i realized i destroyed good tube amp
-
crash_
:(
-
ketas
i think there's just couple of devices in my childhood home still intact
-
ketas
but think of it like learning
-
crash_
i took apart a lot of things in my youth as well, they did't work the way the are intended when i was done but i learned a lot on the way.
-
ketas
there was none left when i was finished often
-
ketas
but i remember all the parts etc
-
crash_
nice
-
ketas
from speakers still intact, that tube amp was like 50w?
-
cpet
i shall go fix my AC
-
ketas
or so
-
ketas
2*50
-
ketas
from speaker, i took filter out
-
ketas
so i'm just left of drivers and box
-
ketas
i mean it's not that special, whatever soviet union produced for homes
-
ketas
all the battery powered toys i was given i took all apart almost immediately too
-
crash_
i see, but it's fun too take things parts apart and see how they are working
-
ketas
now, i did build stuff too
-
ketas
my mother tried to put me somewhere to learn electronics but i didn't like people
-
crash_
and how did that go?
-
ketas
not well
-
ketas
since i don't do people at all or generic bad or good group behaviour i nearly haven't used any of my skills to earn money so far
-
ketas
nothinb went well!
-
ketas
with people irl
-
ketas
eg i was given like pcb of resistors to desolder there
-
ketas
i was like come on
-
ketas
unsure how young i was then
-
ketas
but that felt boooring
-
ketas
especially with what others did
-
ketas
but unsure eh, that was bad time
-
ketas
you know it's much easier now, to fins new stuff
-
crash_
yeah, but it's easy to feel unsure in school, how to behave and how to be around peoples
-
ketas
internet is much easier for finding new ideas
-
ketas
even for meeting people
-
ketas
previously you went to library for books
-
ketas
even then it would be like which book?
-
ketas
then you would ask others maybe
-
ketas
but if you don't do it
-
ketas
or like
