Happy to report that my rge card RTL8168H , pciex10ec,8161 is now visible with 20260514T000317Z in dladm show-phys -m , but when creating a zone that is using it's nictag (external) , then I get this message:

undefined VNIC net0 (global NIC external)

I replased it's MAC in /usbkey/config

replaced

it shows at nictagadm list

but dladm shows it is not in use..

Compare `dladm show-phys -m` and `nictagadm`.

I have 2 machines with the same 8168 card model. Another 8111 does work on the other machine

If this is a standalone SmartOS machine, the "admin" NIC is often the ONLY nic. Can you add your /usbkey/config file and `dladm show-vnic` , if that isn't giving away too much?

Also I wonder if "rge" is spitting out errors in /var/adm/messages* (or dmesg(8)) ?
