Something weird happened today when I downloaded and unpacked new upgraded USB flash 'platform' folder it could not boot properly from USB flash citing some debugging options enabled

And I flashed new USB flash drive with newest platform image and now I see there are 2 additional folder on the USB flash drive: /etc and /boot

So people that might have automatic procedures just to upgrade 'platform' on USB flash and reboot, will have many failed servers , if booting off from USB flash.

Don't realy know when changes to USB flash happened but I suppose I should be informed

vkarlsen, no I don't know when they appeared first , I just know that when I just replaced 'platform' forlder with a new one , it didn't boot normally, but asked for console password

I always write the image to the usb stick with dd (well, pv). How did you do it?

I now tid write it with dd. But for years, I used to unpack the archive to mounted USB flash, and replace the name of the folder on the USB drive with 'platform' , for years.

Interesting, I've never done that. I just download the latest usb image from us-central.manta.mnx.io/Joyent_Dev/public/SmartOS/smartos.html and overwrite the whole usb stick.

vkarlsen, there is even an USB flash drive upgrade, shell script, that supposedly does just that, but automatically, but I haven't been able to make it work, nor upgrade for it to work, but seems now would need more changes if usable anymore at all
