jdtLooking at buying some SuperMicro gear for running Triton. Some of the machines that look interesting are AMD-based. Is this still true (copied from docs.tritondatacenter.com): "For hardware virtual machine support, an Intel CPU is required that supports the EPT feature. All current Intel Xeon E3, E5, and E7 processors should contain support for this. A full list of Intel CPUs is available from Intel. AMD CPUs are not currently supported for hardware virtualization

jdtI'm guessing that guidance is obsoleted by bhyve: docs.smartos.org/bhyve
-
jbkyes and no
-
jbkbhyve should work fine w/ any non-ancient AMD
-
jbkKVM will not
-
jdtMakes sense.
-
jbkwhich is almost never an issue
-
bahamatjdt: Also, triton now defaults to creating bhyve zones
-
jbkunless you have existing VMs that predate bhyve
-
jdtIt's all green field, so no worries there.
-
jdtThank you for the info.
-
bahamatAnd you can set hvm images to be bhyve only after you import them, so you can completely prevent KVM from ever existing in your datacetnter
-
jdtCool, good to know.

jdtI was experimenting with FreeBSD images yesterday (because some of the folks I work with like using it). The "official" images are pretty old, but at least can be upgraded all the way to current (with a little finagling). Is there any plan to update those core images?
