02:31:28 Looking at buying some SuperMicro gear for running Triton. Some of the machines that look interesting are AMD-based. Is this still true (copied from docs.tritondatacenter.com): "For hardware virtual machine support, an Intel CPU is required that supports the EPT feature. All current Intel Xeon E3, E5, and E7 processors should contain support for this. A full list of Intel CPUs is available from Intel. AMD CPUs are not currently supported for hardware virtualization 02:34:40 I'm guessing that guidance is obsoleted by bhyve: https://docs.smartos.org/bhyve/ 02:37:39 yes and no 02:37:47 bhyve should work fine w/ any non-ancient AMD 02:37:52 KVM will not 02:37:59 Makes sense. 02:38:58 which is almost never an issue 02:39:13 jdt: Also, triton now defaults to creating bhyve zones 02:39:16 unless you have existing VMs that predate bhyve 02:39:34 It's all green field, so no worries there. 02:39:44 Thank you for the info. 02:43:54 And you can set hvm images to be bhyve only after you import them, so you can completely prevent KVM from ever existing in your datacetnter 02:46:13 Cool, good to know. 22:33:48 I was experimenting with FreeBSD images yesterday (because some of the folks I work with like using it). The "official" images are pretty old, but at least can be upgraded all the way to current (with a little finagling). Is there any plan to update those core images?
