  I think CDDL was based on MPL 1.x and that MPL-2.0 also addresses many of the same issues but it more widespread and recognized.

  If you look at the oxidecomputer repos I think you'll see a lot of MPL-2.0

  All new contributions to illumos are CDDL 1.0 (and not 1.1), and there is presumably a reason. I can't find anything in the IRC history though.

  I'm digging through the tritondatacenter repos as well and noticing a mix of MPL-2.0 and MIT

  It could just be that the initial licence steward for CDDL 1.1 is Oracle, versus Sun for 1.0.
