i know we've had to resort to blocking a lot of IPs because AI scrapers would effectively DDOS the infra... it is unfortuantely a pretty blunt hammer

No 403 here. Perhaps the Anubis ( anubis.techaro.lol ) thing could be of help instead of IP blocks? Linux seems to be using it as well ( git.kernel.org ).

The ( fenix illumos#17591 ) seems to make dmake a bit racy. I have two SmartOS and one illumos-gate build that fail losing a race to the build of timestamp.c.i .

danmcd: your analysis of 17607 looks correct to me.

The result of me & @Woodstock discussions (so partially his as well).

you need a subdir-specific path for the intermediate file (or you need to only build it once).
