carba@alanc: illumos still writes two notes segments to the core file, the old one and the new one. I've noticed that GDB has problems reading illumos core files with the notes0 segment. Solaris 11.4 core files only have one notes segment. I assume it's the new one, notes1. Can you find out which Solaris 11 version started writing only one notes segment to the core file?

alanccarba: docs.oracle.com/cd/E88353_01/html/E37852/core-5.html says "Prior to Oracle Solaris 11.4, a core file contained two NOTE sections, the extra one containing structures defined in the obsolete <sys/old_procfs.h> header file for the old ioctl()-based /proc interface. Programs should recognize and skip this old NOTE segment. It can be recognized by the presence of entries with entry name "CORE" and with these note types:"

alancSo yeah, looks like raf removed them as part of the EOF of the ancient /proc ioctl interfaces that shipped in Solaris 11.4, figuring that two decades were enough for people to have moved to the restructured /proc (with multiple files per process) introduced in Solaris 2.6
