I was wondering why it wasnt in the helios repo. Had to build from source

a brand is like a flavor of a zone

for example omnios has one for bhyve and for qemu/kvm

they basically run bhyve (c-userspace) or kvm (qemu userspace) inside a bare bones zone

so you get all the additional isolation benefits

there is also LX which is a linux syscall emulation layer so you can run some unmodified linux binaries inside it

someone more knowledgeable please jump in if needed

sjorge/elwisp: correct. zones allow you to run brand-specific code for a bunch of zone-related operations, whether install-time (you can have brands for different packaging systems) or runtime (VM, LX syscall emulation, etc.,).
