you can download it, but it's mostly a stripped down omnios as all the control plain stuff is missing

Yeah there's nothing in there that's especially different from OmniOS r151046 LTS right now. It's only not open because we've been busy and it takes time to make sure licence files are in place and the documentation makes sense (or exists ha ha)
