For those of us using zones, the interesting comparison might be zone boot time.

For me illumos is far more interesting on physical hardware than in a VM.

Indeed. One of the things I occasionally look at is launching an app in a dedicated zone for isolation.

Which has to be really quick from a user-interaction point of view.

Although app in bhyve is similar, for more isolation.

(Think of something like trusted, or Qubes OS, as an operational model.)

bhyve (with memresevoir) start to fully booted ubuntu is like <30sec for me so pretty happy with that. Used to be a lot slower without the resevoir if the system has been up for a while
