sjorgesommerfeld yes, I was just saying even if an OS can boot fast, lots of hw itself can't because all the hoops it have to jump through to get there
-
sjorgeMaybe some arm sbc
-
sjorgeAs the HW is fixed, but I not sure on arm server hw, never played with that
-
nahamuFor those of us using zones, the interesting comparison might be zone boot time.
-
nahamuFor me illumos is far more interesting on physical hardware than in a VM.
-
nahamuthough even then, I guess it would be time to start of the zoneadm process???
-
ptribbleIndeed. One of the things I occasionally look at is launching an app in a dedicated zone for isolation.
-
ptribbleWhich has to be really quick from a user-interaction point of view.
-
ptribbleAlthough app in bhyve is similar, for more isolation.
-
ptribble(Think of something like trusted, or Qubes OS, as an operational model.)

sjorgebhyve (with memresevoir) start to fully booted ubuntu is like <30sec for me so pretty happy with that. Used to be a lot slower without the resevoir if the system has been up for a while
-
andyfillumos.org/issues/15844 should improve that too.
