well and that setting also doesn't have to wait for hardware & drivers to get their act together after reset.

my hw all spends more time getting ready than it takes for the loader to load all the way to boot

ok maybe not if i take into account my vms starting but those are additional OS's of there own so i think its fair

sjorge: it's 25ms to boot *in a specialized VM*, not on bare metal. For one thing, the VM monitor used passes device configuration to the kernel as command line arguments at boot time.
