Doeas anybody have some old Docs that show how SPARC informed our kernel of device changes? I am currently reading through device tree's and wondering what the Mechanism for the same problem was on SPARC since device trees (as a concept) are not just a Linux invention although the current format might be.

I sent an RTI to advocates⊙lio yesterday at around 5PM pacific. I haven't seen any response (which is ok) but it also hasn't appeared in the topicbox archive at illumos.topicbox.com/groups/advocates yet which has me wondering if it fell into a black hole.

Basically I was trying to figure out what work we would need to do have ARM Device tree support and how that actually works. And with the descriptions peolpe are passing to me now I am able to see the ancestry between what we have and FDT

As far as I can see right now (not yet written down in the IPD) is that we have device tree support already but not the Subset that is the new FDT format and the FDT blobs. So we only need a parser support for fdt to our format

and a place to decide where to put the blobs on the FS and how to distribute them

The IPD will ultimetly be about that
