Mornings y'all.
-
antranigv
everyone had a fun night/day?
-
AmyMalik
could be worse
-
antranigv
I'll take that as "it was so good it couldn't have been better, it only could be worse" xD
-
AmyMalik
Nope
-
AmyMalik
Not great, could have been far worse
-
AmyMalik
My life does not tend to go well.
-
antranigv
AmyMalik eh, I'll do my best to make your day not-great-less. any thing you need patched? a software ported?
-
antranigv
which reminds me, when re@ builds for the rest of us, what do they use for CPUTYPE? well its not native for sure
-
AmyMalik
no antranigv
-
antranigv
I'm asking because I want to build -CURRENT on my big machine, but deploy it on my older laptop (same arch, different generation)
-
AmyMalik
serve yourself, i will figure out what i can my side
-
antranigv
vkarlsen finally figured out the proper way of doing that port.

mzar
yes, GH_TUPLE looks good for this purpose
-
andmars
ahoi, can anyone tell me how hard it is to get xlibre up and running on freebsd 15? Tried building it from ports couple weeks ago and it didn't go well.
-
rtprio
did your computer explode?
-
andmars
rtprio: nah, couple error messages while building...but I'm still kinda new to freebsd, been using arch since 2008
-
rtprio
then it didnt go that bad.
-
rtprio
you could try the package
-
andmars
I'm installing freebsd 15 right now on my laptop...it didn't find a package last time
-
andmars
nice...xlibre is simply installing
-
andmars
fatal server error: no screens found
-
andmars
I followed the handbook, installed drm-kmod, user is in video group, sysrc kld_list+=i915kms 20-intel.conf in xorg.conf.d
-
andmars
okay, removing 20-intel.conf did the trick
-
antranigv
andmars how is the stability? last I used (which is when it was new) it was pretty CPU heavy, but I hear its much more stable now?
-
andmars
antranigv: on arch I found no difference. On freebsd I'll look for cpu usage the next couple days.
-
antranigv
andmars thank you.
-
antranigv
Been on macOS for the last couple of years for the desktop/laptop, but macOS 26 is so bad I might actually buy a Framework laptop and use Xlibre with my beautiful WindowMaker.
-
netbsdunchik
how to patch kde2 under freebsd?
-
rtprio
netbsdunchik: patch it to do what
-

antranigv OpenBSD is a great desktop BSD as long as the hardware is a match. So maybe thinkpad instead of framework (haven't seen great stories about those, saw a few of them brick themselves).
-
antranigv
o0x1eef alas I've been spoiled by ZFS and DTrace. Started with OpenBSD myself! :D
-
o0x1eef
I use a mix of the two. For my personal laptops I run OpenBSD, but I don't write code or anything on it. Just www + mail, basically.
-
antranigv
o0x1eef same as I use macOS basically.
-
o0x1eef
Yeah, once upon a time macOS was alright but probably talking a decade or more ago.
-
hodapp
I still find it far preferable to Windows 11
-
o0x1eef
Windows 11 is legendary by itself. It's the moment people turned on MS.
-
CrtxReavr
Windows peaked at 7.
-
CrtxReavr
2008r2 on the server side.
-
vkarlsen
antranigv: I saw fuz was on the case, so I knew you were in good hands
-
rtprio
why might zfs.ko load itself? there are no pools nor i'm trying to import anyhting
-
swee
How do I patch an existing port?
-
swee
like fixing the rc.d script that it has, not like upgrading the program for the port
-
rhaberkorn
You want to contribute this port? Prepare a patch ontop of the master branch and submit it via bugs.freebsd.org.
