I heard Oracle Cloud has images for FreeBSD 13.1 but on ARM64

Any idea if they do also for amd64?

WHY so muc hype over this AMPERE thing? whats so coool that they only want freeBSD to run on those?

Hi, just trying to install FreeBSD on an Hetzner EX43 (i5-12500, some ASUS bios). Installed using QEMU (depenguin.me), when bopting, the remote console freezes shortly after "atrtc0: Warning: Couldn't map I/O" - when disabling atrtc and booting verbosely, it gets a bit further ("ppc0 failed to probe at irq 7 on isa0., and then trying to reserve a

range for uart0 on pcib0). Just lost remote console, so no screenshot. Just curious if anyone has experience using this type/CPU.

grembo, First, I do not know anything. But I know I read some discussion somewhere recently about Hetzner installs of FreeBSD, problems, and workarounds.

Meaning that I think other people have had problems too but were able to work around them. Just trying to give hope here.

Yes, I was involved in creating one of the workarounds (depenguin.me). Using this I could install on many servers there (AXyyy, EX42, PX62 etc.), but my problem with this server type (EX43) is that the machine won't boot. So it's not Hetzner specific, but probably due to the CPU/chipset (12th gen intel, i5-12500).

That might be a case where you want to build the port instead, and pick & choose build options.

telmich: IPv6 would be my first guess. I sometimes get a delay if I forget to take down gif0 (for my IPv6 tunnel) before running pkg update in an environment where the tunnel can't be made.

In about 14 months, IPv6 will only be a quarter of a century old.

yourfate: Not really, because some php74 pkgs don't have php8x equivalents. You might be lucky with your pickings, though.

I guess I'll crate a liste of packages, edit that to say 82, and feed it to pkg, to see what happens :P

i had a zroot that contains a mirror with a disk to replace

da1.eli is the one to replace

but i couldn't zpool replace it

now, when i try to zpool attach:

even though da1.eli clearly exits

how do i make da1.eli mirror da0.eli?

It looks to me like mirror-1 already contains da2.eli and ada2.eli.

But "da" would be a USB device??? Scary! I haven't had good luck with USB attached storage.

Caution that I am a newbie but I think your zpool status paste pastebin.com/HasZgHct shows three VDEVs online.

One VDEV is a raidz1 pool. One VDEV is a mirror pool. One VDEV is da0.eli just by itself!

I do not know but I always thought that one could not remove a VDEV from a pool once it has been added.

Therefore I think you could now only replace that VDEV which is currently da0.eli by the status posted.

I am testing replacing a hard drive on a ZFS mirror root setup with GELI encryption. I can get all the step working except for the boot partition. I read in the forum someone mentioning "Copy the boot code using gpart", but how does one do that?

I have copied the partition layout.

iio7: i have this in my notes, but not for GELI, so please look things up before you ruin something: `gpart bootcode -b /boot/pmbr -p /boot/gptzfsboot -i 3 ada1`

I have done the following steps in replacing a GELI encrypted zroot mirror disk, but it will not attach/open during boot. 1. copied the partition layout using gpart and verified. 2. copied the boot code to the new disk, using gpart. 3. geli init, geli attach. 4. zpool replace. Disk has been resilvered, etc.

But when I boot, only the first drive gets attached.

I can attach it manually and then bring the pool online again.

Does the bootloader somehow needs to be told about the new disk? So it can decrypt it during boot?
