hello
-
ilsi
I heard Oracle Cloud has images for FreeBSD 13.1 but on ARM64
-
ilsi
Any idea if they do also for amd64?
-
ilsi
WHY so muc hype over this AMPERE thing? whats so coool that they only want freeBSD to run on those?
-
ilsi
pretty weird, right .....
-
ilsi
anyone know how to custom image, though? If the freeBSD team has any resources on that?
-
kevans
er, ampere makes some pretty awesome gear

mage, List the swap devices "swapctl -l" and verify that the swapoff -a was succesful. I will guess it was not and it is still active / busy.

Hi, just trying to install FreeBSD on an Hetzner EX43 (i5-12500, some ASUS bios). Installed using QEMU (depenguin.me), when bopting, the remote console freezes shortly after "atrtc0: Warning: Couldn't map I/O" - when disabling atrtc and booting verbosely, it gets a bit further ("ppc0 failed to probe at irq 7 on isa0., and then trying to reserve a
-
grembo
range for uart0 on pcib0). Just lost remote console, so no screenshot. Just curious if anyone has experience using this type/CPU.
-
rwp
grembo, First, I do not know anything. But I know I read some discussion somewhere recently about Hetzner installs of FreeBSD, problems, and workarounds.
-
rwp
Meaning that I think other people have had problems too but were able to work around them. Just trying to give hope here.
-
grembo
Yes, I was involved in creating one of the workarounds (
depenguin.me). Using this I could install on many servers there (AXyyy, EX42, PX62 etc.), but my problem with this server type (EX43) is that the machine won't boot. So it's not Hetzner specific, but probably due to the CPU/chipset (12th gen intel, i5-12500).

Title: Install FreeBSD-13.1 on a dedicated server from a Linux rescue environment
-
telmich
I have a weird problem
-
telmich
When I install a full routing table into the kernel, commands like pkg update take 2.5 minutes instead of 2 seconds
-
telmich
I'm on 13.1 with frr, anyone a clue what could be going wrong here?
-
grembo
What do you mean by "install a full routing table into the kernel"?
-
CrtxReavr
telmich, what does your 'ifconfig' output look like?
-
yourfate
ffmpeg needs wayland, even on headless systems, it seems
-
CrtxReavr
o_O
-
CrtxReavr
That doesn't sound right.
-
yourfate
I installed it from pkg
-
yourfate
and it installed wayland :s
-
CrtxReavr
That might be a case where you want to build the port instead, and pick & choose build options.
-
grahamperrin
telmich: IPv6 would be my first guess. I sometimes get a delay if I forget to take down gif0 (for my IPv6 tunnel) before running pkg update in an environment where the tunnel can't be made.
-
debdrup
In about 14 months, IPv6 will only be a quarter of a century old.
-
yourfate
I have a bunch of php74 packages, is there an easy way to install the php8x equivalent of all of them?
-
vkarlsen
yourfate: Not really, because some php74 pkgs don't have php8x equivalents. You might be lucky with your pickings, though.
-
yourfate
I guess I'll crate a liste of packages, edit that to say 82, and feed it to pkg, to see what happens :P

pkubaj_
i had a zroot that contains a mirror with a disk to replace
-
pkubaj_
zpool status output:
pastebin.com/HasZgHct
-
VimDiesel
Title: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM zroot DEGR - Pastebin.com
-
pkubaj_
previously, da0.eli and da1.eli were mirrored
-
pkubaj_
da1.eli is the one to replace
-
pkubaj_
but i couldn't zpool replace it
-
pkubaj_
now, when i try to zpool attach:
-
pkubaj_
root@serwer:$~$ zpool attach zroot /dev/da0.eli /dev/da1.eli
-
pkubaj_
cannot attach /dev/da1.eli to /dev/da0.eli: one or more devices is currently unavailable
-
pkubaj_
even though da1.eli clearly exits
-
pkubaj_
exists
-
pkubaj_
how do i make da1.eli mirror da0.eli?
-
pkubaj_
this is on 13.1-release
-
toxictrash
pkubaj_: aren't you trying to attach da0.eli and da1.eli to zroot? da0.eli is already there
-
rwp
It looks to me like mirror-1 already contains da2.eli and ada2.eli.
-
rwp
But "da" would be a USB device??? Scary! I haven't had good luck with USB attached storage.

pkubaj_, If I understand correctly I think your zpool is now in trouble.
-
rwp
Caution that I am a newbie but I think your zpool status paste
pastebin.com/HasZgHct shows three VDEVs online.
-
VimDiesel
Title: NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM zroot DEGR - Pastebin.com
-
rwp
One VDEV is a raidz1 pool. One VDEV is a mirror pool. One VDEV is da0.eli just by itself!
-
rwp
I do not know but I always thought that one could not remove a VDEV from a pool once it has been added.
-
rwp
Therefore I think you could now only replace that VDEV which is currently da0.eli by the status posted.
-
pkubaj_
toxictrash: rwp: thanks, i succeeded in mirroring da0
-
pkubaj_
it's now:
-
pkubaj_
mirror-2 ONLINE 0 0 0
-
pkubaj_
da0.eli ONLINE 0 0 0
-
pkubaj_
da1.eli ONLINE 0 0 0 (resilvering)
-
pkubaj_
which is good

I am testing replacing a hard drive on a ZFS mirror root setup with GELI encryption. I can get all the step working except for the boot partition. I read in the forum someone mentioning "Copy the boot code using gpart", but how does one do that?
-
iio7
I have copied the partition layout.
-
ridcully
iio7: i have this in my notes, but not for GELI, so please look things up before you ruin something: `gpart bootcode -b /boot/pmbr -p /boot/gptzfsboot -i 3 ada1`
-
ridcully
iio7: the -i and dev will differ for sure for you
-
iio7
ridcully, thank you very much!
-
iio7
I have done the following steps in replacing a GELI encrypted zroot mirror disk, but it will not attach/open during boot. 1. copied the partition layout using gpart and verified. 2. copied the boot code to the new disk, using gpart. 3. geli init, geli attach. 4. zpool replace. Disk has been resilvered, etc.
-
iio7
But when I boot, only the first drive gets attached.
-
iio7
I can attach it manually and then bring the pool online again.
-
iio7
Does the bootloader somehow needs to be told about the new disk? So it can decrypt it during boot?
-
mason
iio7: try geli configure -g
-
mason
iio7: I'm guessing you didn't say geli init -g
-
iio7
mason, doh! I was missing the -g option!
-
mason
iio7: I only know because it's bitten me too.
-
iio7
mason, thank you very much!
-
mason
Happy to help. :)
