tsoome_all ? marks on output may mean the terminal was switched to alternate code set mode. Try to do full [hard] reset for it either from menu or you can try something like echo '\ec'

tsoome_other way to check is output to file or to hex dump and check the byte stream. You also want to make sure your terminal understanding from encoding (UTF-8?) and locale setup for app does match...
