USB key method; it's a standalone box that hosts 3 zones, 2 native, 1 bhyve that i've been running for about 6 years or more I guess, it's an e3-12xx series supermicro motherboard with a 4-pool sata ssd zfs mirror ; just keeps working all these years :-)

I don't have any smartos anymore. Theres always the possibility but I moved my VMs to TrueNAS Scale box. I did upgrade it recently before powering it down. went ok but had hardware issues that made me consolidate.
