  Following the advice here to add some SSH keys to my root user on my HN: perkin.org.uk/posts/smartos-global-zone-tweaks.html - but editing the /usbkey/config file doesn't seem to survive a reboot. Is there something else I need to do to persist that data?

  Putting the authorized_keys file in config.inc does survive; it's just the modification to /usbkey/config that doesn't.

  For a triton headnode you need to `sdc-usbkey mount` and then edit `/mnt/usbkey/config`

  Yeah, I think that article is written for standalone SmartOS.
