  As for Rocket Lake... I don't know if anyone's tested such a beast, but I can't think of any problems off the top of my head. (And the I210 NIC is well supported!)

  You won't have have GPU support (the "G" part of 2456G), but otherwise the E-2456 looks like an intel competitor to higher-end Ryzens.

  My home server v2 was an Intel Xeon E3 1265Lv3, same family (Haswell) as your 1231.

  I went (in 2020) with a Ryzen 3700X for HDC v3. The Ryzen 7s support ECC, but have a smaller *server-class* mobo ecosystem than comparable Intels.

  If you go Ryzen for a server, ASRockRack makes some good mobos, but you have to be careful to avoid the Broadcom NICs on some of them.
