nikolamHm, what image/dataset to use if I want to run illumos kernel in HVM?.. And installing from ISO..
-
bahamatnikolam: You don't use an image docs.smartos.org/how-to-create-a-virtual-machine-from-scratch
-
bahamatWhat exactly are you trying to do?
-
bahamatWe have smartos-in-smartos images ("smartos-retro"), and there's an unofficial OmniOS image (but a bit out of date)
-
nikolamYup, that's it, empty one, thanks.
-
nikolamWant to install oldish opensolatis and test IPS OI repo updates, like in the old times, to see where it hangs or passes.
-
nikolamHmm, SmartOS HVM might be useful
-
danmcdYou can install OmniOS in a BHYVE VM, I suspect OI will work too. (I can't remember how I brought up my OmniOS BHYVE zone, I think I used the unofficial OmniOS image and Did Upgrades internally after that).
-
nikolamsoo. bhyve HVM can't use "nic_tag": "stub0" as etherstub for HVM virtio NIC to plug into? I have put "nic_tag": "stub0" and I see IP in 'vmadm info UUID vnc is some DHCP 'admin' interface IP..
-
nikolamI suppose it is only for vnc, but.. what if there no more then one IP on admin and no dhcp for it?
-
nikolamAh I see, it's the same global zone IP where it opens port..
-
sjorgethe omnios zfs image works well with bhyve, they have one for lts en stable, not sure on bloody
-
andyfThere are cloud images too, which have cloud-init in them (bloody too)
