Yeah, basically you'll do `mdata-get sdc:nics` and that will give you a JSON array of interfaces, then parse that to bring up the interfaces.

zmoment: we're working on infrastructure to make keeping those OS images updated a lot easier - it'll take a while, but once we're done things should improve

From my perspective of a new comer to the Illumos environment and SmartOS in particular, I'm finding hard to go ahead configuring a system. There are differences from SmartOS to other Illumos branches, also to Solaris 10 (for which there are books and Oracle's documentation) and popularity of these systems is not big.

So, I couldn't find a thorough resource to have as a guide.

zmoment: did you come across wiki.smartos.org/smartos-quick-start-guide ?

zmoment: docs.smartos.org is your reference guide there. It has almost anything you'd need to know about configuring SmartOS.

If there are questions you have that aren't answered there, then you're either in advanced territory, or it's something we should add.
