danmcdnvme-tcp sounds as good an idea as iscsi...
-
nbjoerggiven that we have network cards that can do dma from nvme to tls...
-
thetoothis there any good reading material on crossbow and how smartos zones talk to each other? looking into some throughput issues and very high cpu utilisation at fairly low rates of transfer, it seems like traffic is hitting L3+ processing when it should be L2

steven1237Hi - is it possible to securely erase my main disk while booted off the USB stick?
-
nbjoergsteven1237: what type of disk?
-
steven1237samsung 850
-
steven1237trying just rebooting into gparted's bootable iso - but for some reason it's uploading at around 700kbps...
-
steven1237and now that's toast... Windows 7 (since the KVM client provided doesn't support anything higher than java 8 161) just forcibly rebooted itself...
-
nbjoergsteven1237: easiest way is normally to set a SATA password and then disable it again or so

nikolamI am thinking of leaving Smartos on one desktop machine and just installing Windows 10 inside Bhyve or KVM, and give it PCI-passthorugh (CPU-integrated intel graphics) and access to USB ports so that it can be used as a desktop machine (While SmartOS is still in the background). Does that sounds (too much) crazy? :)
-
toastersonnikolam: No, since most graphics cards have the monitor outputs on themselves they would output to the monitor. the Mouse and keyboard signal would need to be directed into the VM proberly though
-
jclulowI don't believe there is any USB passthrough so you'd need to pass an entire USB controller into the gue3st.
-
toastersonnikolam: Some comprehensive Hardware requirements can be found in the Archwiki wiki.archlinux.org/title/PCI_passthrough_via_OVMF
-
nahamuI was able to pass through a USB controller and plugged a keyboard, mouse, and displaylink display adapter through. Performance wasn't great, though.

Smithx10danmcd: yea, hopefully illumos gets a replicated block thingie soon that can be mounted. Propolis (github.com/oxidecomputer/propolis/b…/lib/propolis/src/block/crucible.rs) Crucible (github.com/oxidecomputer/crucible) looks like it should be working in the next 4-6 months. Might be time for a new brand. What cha think jclulow? Good news is, I'll have the nics + storage ready. Until then drbd + nvme-tcp
