I have attempted to update the zabbix port, but it fails at compilation claiming it cannot find libevent. Strange thing is the old patch simply replaces the libevent text with libev. I have recreated this patch, but it fails to find the header files. MAybe there was a time period, where this solution worked, but it doesn't anymore, at least I don't understand why this should work. But libevent compiles on

Illumos and claims solaris support (for 11.4), and some tests fails on OmniOS, so I have created an issue upstream.
