i got OmniOS pilled recently by a youtube video. the zones caught my interest pretty hard. Just got done with setting up a vm of Omni and got a minecraft server running in a zone. thoroughly impressed. might have to redesign my homelab to put OmniOS as my host OS

OmniOS (and Illumos more generally) seems to be a bit of a well kept secret, It's the sort of thing I'd look at first for storage / virtualisation.

I *was* going to build HDC 4.0 this year, but DDR5 RAM prices, and honestly, this is the

first 6-years-later upgrade cycle where the one that's 6 years old still actually does everything I need it to and then some, modulo bad case design,

has me doing a mobo transplant for "HDC 3.5" instead.

I lucked out on the timing of my upgrade cycle.

NGL I'm looking forward to (hopefully permanently) relief from some of the HDD problems I had early-on with the HDC 3 build.

Of course if it's mobo SATA problems then I'm still screwed but at least I'll get confirmation it's not "case designed for SSDs shouldn't have both 3.5 HDD slots filled".
