I have a hot spare showing in zpool status pool0 but when I try to 'zpool remove' it I'm told it isn't in the pool.

It was entered wrong and I want to fix it.

IIRC you have to do `zpool remove pool0 spare <device>`

that kicks out two errors.

cannot remove spare: no such device in pool

cannot remove /devices/scsi_vhci/disk@g5000c500c9ef094b:a,raw: no such device in pool

ignore that raw, I was trying other paths to the same device.

I've tried the full path, the device with s0 and the device without s0, same result regardless.

so, one more try, same command I've issued multiple times.

Try zpool detach instead

This time it worked.

I know it was the same command because it was a cut & paste from history.

"please zpool remove pool0 /dev/rdsk/c0t5000C500C9EF094Bd0" (no s0) was the magic.

so even though zpool status said 's0' it didn't want s0.

I don't want s0 either.

I'm funny that way.
