I had to swap out a NIC and now I can't configure the new one. ipadm won't let me delete the old config.

-
nomad
any hints?
-
andyf
delete-addr aggr_nas0/v4
-
andyf
then, hopefully, `delete-if aggr_nas0` should work
-
andyf
delete-aggr, presumably
-
nomad
so ... the address is the device name, not the IP address. I think I've tripped over this before. <sigh>
-
andyf
Addresses have names, yes, <if>/<label> and `v4` is just one of the conventions for the label
-
andyf
there are some restrictions but it does not have to be v4
-
nomad
yep, that solved it.
-
nomad
thanks,
-
nomad
when I hear "address" I think x.y.z.foo.
-
nomad
aggr_nas0 looks like a device to me.
-
nomad
anyway, that solved it. Thanks for the quick assist.

Hey there! I'm Teresa (she/her).

I've downloaded r151042 (current stable). I picked the "usb-dd" image. I've calculated the SHA256 checksum, they match. I made sure I'm writing to the correct drive. I even checked whether the write to the usb drive was successful with this handy script from Stackoverflow. Then I tried to boot into it. It gets past the bootloader, it prints the

copyright notice, "configuring devices", "applying initial boot settings", "scanning for media", and then it says "could not mount installation media". I waited, but it seems to hang there without anything else happening.
-
andyf
If you can, try writing the .iso file to the usb drive - that's a hybrid image that might work a bit better
-
andyf
other than that, trying different USB ports (and avoiding USB 3 ones) can sometimes help.
-
nomad
ISTR never getting the usb-dd image to work. The .iso was fine.
-
orylesor
Oh, wow, it was indeed a 3.0 port (didn't even notice), plugged it into a 2.0 one and it works now. Thanks!
-
orylesor
Do y'all know why this happens? It doesn't matter for practical reasons, I'm merely curious.
-
orylesor
Heh, "uname -a" says "SunOS", that's really cute, I love it. :)
-
vab_
@andyf congrats (linkedin snitched) :-)
-
sjorge
GitHub also snitched but I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure it was suppose to be public yet
-
sjorge
but congrats
-
nomad
oh? do tell?
-
orylesor
Does OmniOS have Xorg? I couldn't find anything with "pkg search" or "pkg.omnios.org".
-
sjorge
no, although I believe the bits from pkgsrc do work
-
sjorge
if you want a desktop experience you're probably better of using openindiana
-
orylesor
Awesome, thanks! I'm just poking around. I'm checking out esoteric operating systems for fun. :)
-
nomad
I'm not sure how I feel about an OS I'm using in production being called 'esoteric'.
-
orylesor
Ah, sorry about that. Wasn't sure what the right word is. Any suggestions?
-
nomad
nah, it's ok.
-
orylesor
:)
-
nomad
just feels strange to think about.
-
orylesor
Oh, yeah, it's an interesting thought. One prominent example is FreeBSD on Playstation 4. Most people probably haven't even heard about Linux, much less FreeBSD.
-
» nomad is also using FBSD in production
-
nomad
but not on a PS4.
-
orylesor
Oh, that's really cool!
-
nomad
the file servers for $job[0] are FBSD, as is my home server.
-
nomad
File servers for $job[1] and $job[2] are OmniOS.
-
» nomad <3 ZFS
-
orylesor
Oh, you have at least free jobs? Also, why both operating systems, why not just one or the other? It's perfectly valid and cool, just curious.
-
orylesor
*three jobs
-
nomad
OmniOS was already in use when I started at $job[2].
-
nomad
It's reliable and stable and since it's just file service it was easier not to have to retrain people.
-
nomad
I work at a .edu and am grant funded. My time is split between so many grants I don't even bother to keep track.
-
nomad
but I support three distinct organizations so I separate things that way.
-
orylesor
I see, interesting. I'll go to bed, have a good one!
