hi, i've got a T5-2 online with spare capacity to support various sparc64 projects/communities. i assume this might be of some interest here.

zv, besides old and umaintained Openindiana, long time ago, there is only Tribblix active on SPARC, and maybe DIlos illumos.org/docs/about/distro

That machine can also run and is supported on newest Solaris 11.4 , proprietary

illumos btw, stopped updating kernel port od SPARC sometimes ago.. exactly for the lack of available cheap hardware in the wild.

I think tribblix uses Dilos SPARC kernel best bet would be contacting Tribblix and Trible, Btw I have one older T2 , T5420 so count me in :P

zv, as said, they stopped updating illumos for SPARC and Tribblix and Dilos would appreciate it.

zv, on SPARC. on x86 is chugging along. and OmniOSCE and Helios in Oxide and SmartOS/triton datacenter under MNX/Edgecast

dilos seems offline/unreachable

Both Tribblix and OpenIndiana are actively maintained on SPARC

there are occasional sparc-related commits to openindiana-userland, mostly by "klausz65"

Slightly different approaches to illumos support.

Tribblix takes the last commit of illumos-gate before SPARC started to be gutted and cherry-picks interesting commits on top.

so from the perspective of wanting to be most helpful to this/these communities, could upstream illumos benefit? tribblix? openindiana?

Whereas OpenIndiana tries to fix up current illumos to make it work on SPARC.

i'd like to (a) make these distributions available publicly at cfarm.net for general developers, (b) support these distributions with private environments for building/testing

Generally there's nothing on the SPARC side going back into illumos (and I'm not sure I would expect us to find anything); the arm port is a completely different matter.

The more diversity on cfarm the better (although we don't even have illumos on x86 there yet, which would be really useful for wider software support)

The key value of putting illumos on the cfarm would be that people get exposure to our headers and the way they differ, so all the distros ought to be pretty similar in that regard
