just to confirm, in the MSI-X capability in the cfg space of a PCI device, the table size is the # of supported vectors-1 (we might only be able to use fewer, but that'd be the max the device is capable of) correct?
-
rmustacc
jbk: Correct.

thanks..

hi, i've got a T5-2 online with spare capacity to support various sparc64 projects/communities. i assume this might be of some interest here.

nikolam
zv, besides old and umaintained Openindiana, long time ago, there is only Tribblix active on SPARC, and maybe DIlos
illumos.org/docs/about/distro
-
nikolam
That machine can also run and is supported on newest Solaris 11.4 , proprietary
-
nikolam
illumos btw, stopped updating kernel port od SPARC sometimes ago.. exactly for the lack of available cheap hardware in the wild.
-
nikolam
I think tribblix uses Dilos SPARC kernel best bet would be contacting Tribblix and Trible, Btw I have one older T2 , T5420 so count me in :P
-
nikolam
that good , zv ?
-
zv
nikolam: any possibility that illumos kernel people could make use of this?
-
zv
I wasn't aware that openindiana is unmaintained
-
nikolam
zv, as said, they stopped updating illumos for SPARC and Tribblix and Dilos would appreciate it.
-
nikolam
zv, on SPARC. on x86 is chugging along. and OmniOSCE and Helios in Oxide and SmartOS/triton datacenter under MNX/Edgecast
-
zv
dilos seems offline/unreachable
-
ptribble
Both Tribblix and OpenIndiana are actively maintained on SPARC
-
sommerfeld
there are occasional sparc-related commits to openindiana-userland, mostly by "klausz65"
-
ptribble
Slightly different approaches to illumos support.
-
ptribble
Tribblix takes the last commit of illumos-gate before SPARC started to be gutted and cherry-picks interesting commits on top.
-
zv
so from the perspective of wanting to be most helpful to this/these communities, could upstream illumos benefit? tribblix? openindiana?
-
ptribble
Whereas OpenIndiana tries to fix up current illumos to make it work on SPARC.
-
zv
i'd like to (a) make these distributions available publicly at cfarm.net for general developers, (b) support these distributions with private environments for building/testing
-
ptribble
Generally there's nothing on the SPARC side going back into illumos (and I'm not sure I would expect us to find anything); the arm port is a completely different matter.
-
ptribble
The more diversity on cfarm the better (although we don't even have illumos on x86 there yet, which would be really useful for wider software support)
-
zv
ptribble: I can provide sparc64 and x86 illumos LDOMs/VMs for cfarm.net, referencing your email from november 2025
-
zv
and I can also provide sparc64 LDOMs for illumos/adjacent projects
-
zv
i just want to put the machine to best use and there's plenty of capacity
-
zv
for cfarm x86 illumos, would omnios be the best bet? not sure what's most useful
-
ptribble
The key value of putting illumos on the cfarm would be that people get exposure to our headers and the way they differ, so all the distros ought to be pretty similar in that regard
