i didn't even know it existed until you mentioned it
-
jbk
though looking at it, since it seems to be a way to quickly map a 32-bit value to a pointer (at least in the few places it's used), i'm guessing the assumption is the things it's trying to 'map' are going to be heap allocated objects

jbk: I appreciate your sacrafice.
-
jbk
also fun: the FAT32 implementation in this system's firmware apparently has buggy write support
-
richlowe
do... people have the firmware do a lot of writes?
-
jbk
well i was trying to copy a file on the UEFI system partition from the UEFI shell
-
richlowe
whew
-
jbk
which rendered it unreadable to UEFI
-
richlowe
I'm going to guess they don't then :)

jbk
(yet not to illumos)
-
jbk
yeah... just booting from virtual takes somewhere on the order of 40 minutes on this machine... so I was trying to avoid that
-
richlowe
I, uh, what?
-
jbk
err virtual iso
-
richlowe
is it reading byte-by-byte or something?
-
richlowe
is it emulating 1x to be safe?
-
richlowe

-
jbk
well i think it does you java, so... :)
-
jbk
granted sun eventually fixed that at least on solaris
-
jbk
(if you ever tried symon and wondered why it was making your hard drive scream in agony, it was issuing 1 byte syscalls)
-
jbk
it being the jre
-
tsoome
it was quite amusing bug.
-
jbk
i was actually astonished when I figured out what was going on
-
jbk
like here was was maybe a year or so out of college (if that)... and _I_ knew why that was a horrible thing to do... I sort of (naively) assumed that Sun would have done better :P

andyf: FYI something is wrong with reverse DNS for mail.citrus-it.net. - getting SERVFAIL; dig @8.8.8.8 -x 89.248.55.103 has some diagnostics
-
andyf
sommerfeld - Thank you, will get it fixed!
-
sommerfeld
looks like both scorpion.citrus-it.net and trinidad.citrus-it.net forgot that they were supposed to be authoritative for a chunk of reverse space..
-
andyf
Well those are brand new servers that very recently replaced the old ones, and it looks like something is wrong with the reverse DNS..
-
sommerfeld
from here it looks like they're missing the 64/26.55.248.89.in-addr.arpa. zone (love those weirdo rfc2317 names..)
-
andyf
That looks a bit better now. Thanks again for letting me know
-
sommerfeld
yes, looks better from here as well.
