i'm not up on the latest with the rust compiler bits to know if there's a deliberate reason we're not using the v0 scheme (which I think would be better regardless)

though maybe being a bit looser won't be too bad

I don't really know anything about it, so I can confidently say that I have never been involved in an explicit decision to avoid the v0 scheme haha

It may just be latent stuff we need to go and push forward

yeah, i don't know what the intention was after the v0 format was integrated into master (i.e. did each target need to explicitly flip a switch, is it supposed to apply everywhere, or something else)
