Guest22Hi, what recomend the distribution for old laptop on 32 bit cpu?
-
ptribbleNo current distribution will work with a 32-bit cpu
-
ptribbleTribblix m20 was the last Tribblix release to do so, but that hasn't seen any updates for about 5 years
-
Guest22Check Tribblix, thx. What about ild version of OpenIndiana? 2017 release?
-
ptribbleTribblix m20 was 2017, so it would have to be then or you might have to go back a year or two earlier.

ReinhildeOther UNIX OSes are also removing support for the 686.

tsoome_There is also this bit - we currently do build 32bit UEFI loader for systems starting up in 32-bit UEFI firmware, but are capable of switching to 64-bit mode. I'd actually also drop that support at some point in time....
-
sjorgeWait… why did 32-bit UEFI even exist?
-
sjorgeWeren’t most CPU’s x86_64 when it got created?
-
sjorgeI guess they technically still started in whatever legacy mode and made there way up to full 64-but mode very early in boot 🤔

alancthe first release of UEFI by Intel was in 2004, when Intel was mostly still selling 32-bit CPUs and had just announced it's first 64-bit x86 systems
-
jbki forget when intel's going to stop supporting the legacy bios boot (if not already).. i do wonder if after that what mode CPUs will be in after power on..
-
jbke.g. do they still pretend they're an 8086 until you jump through all the hoops and such
