if I haven't mentioned that before, taking the work done there on arm into his sparc tree so it can cross-build would be a good thing.

richlowe Klaus had switched everything to a much newer gcc (11 IRC) but had to fall back to the old gcc 4 and gas on some few files as they would usually build but break in mysterious ways...

well, even using a gas at all as a marked improvement.

the cross-compile IPD is deliberately vague about compiler versions etc, but is definitely separate from illumos' policy-based choices.

It would be preferable, unless they have their own more specific guards.
