I'm working on setting up an IPVS Linux based(ubuntu) for my day job. I've come to realize that the Linux kernel treats every IP on every interface (under the same linux network namespace) as if they were local to every interface without IP forwarding.

That seems an odd architectural decision to me

If I disable the default to arp every interface across every other interface I can still fully reach another interface on a separate network if I add a static route through the interface on the shared network

With ip forwarding disabled

It's just breaking my brain a little

rmustacc: tre had its own weak points (while fixing a lot of performance issues in spencer implementation), and at that time FreeBSD did some work on their implementation, so I simply didn't think putting more work into tre was worth it
