i did 'piadm install /path/to/platform-......tgz' and there is a corresponding boot-....tgz in the same dir

Anyway, to update the boot (loader) using piadm you need the full ISO. This is likely something we can improve upon.

i ended up doing it by hand.. but just wanted to be sure there wasn't a better way

i need to file a ticket for it, but I've been trying to add missing EFI GUIDs to loader from the latest UEFI spec (mostly since there's really no other good way to see what's there)

unless you want to compare GUIDs

e.g. I've discovered already that my system implements the security command protocol for NVMe, but not SATA (per the manuf. the drives should support the commands)

but does at least support ATA pass thru on them
