How can I prevent a USB-port from suspending as soon as I turn of my monitor? If that's what's even happening? The device, that's connected to my computer, stops working as soon as I turn of the monitor. :/

this sounds like your computer is going for sleep when monitor is turned off.

in general monitor power should not really be related to usb, unless it will trigger ACPI sleep state. I'd start with checking/disabling DPMS, also, disable X (to get plain text console), then switch off monitor and see if you still get the same defect.

How do you get thunar to detect devices over samba? this usually requires a thunar shares plugin but it seems different for freeBSD which is why i'm asking
