mzar: I actually have an old HP DL360 that has a crazy-old iLo (3, I believe?) that requires either .NET or Java to access console. I've been planning on seting up SoL for that exact reason but haven't dug too deep into it yet. Is there documentation you have that you can point me to? Anything to get moving in the right direction would be appreciated.

in the output from `ls -lh /dir`, shouldn't the total be "humanized" too?

pstef: the "total" display should be in blocks, you could trick around that by using coreutils' ls with --block-size=1K or something, but other than that I don't know

I'd prefer to just fix it, unless there's a good reason to keep it the way it is

pstef: I'm known for simply installing coreutils and using ls from that because there's no equivalent of --group-directories-first in BSD ls even...

thanks dstolfa I would like to use ksh93, I plan to use dtksh which is based on ksh93, so I prefer to be on that version even being now pretty "vintage"

I am now using /bin/sh so still an upgrade

uskerine: well if it's just the shell prompt that is wrong, presumably you just need to use ksh93's syntax to correctly state "username@host: working-directory$ " which i don't know, but i'm sure that your favorite search engine can help :P

it seems it is properly configured as per ksh93 yet not translating to username host and working directory. no a search engine is of no help here

i thought the PS1 was correct but it was using bash escape commands
