One thing you could do is look for a user group near you (freebsd.org/usergroups) or online and keep an ear out or ask around.

i wanted to do pure zfs

if it boots into efishell maybe you can configure the boot similar to efibootmgr with that

I've had to fix the entry in efishell before, I vaguely remember it being the same syntax like efibootmgr

if you forgot gpart bootcode that disk wouldn't boot at all

When I run mc, there is a 2-3s delay before it starts. When i run it via truss to be able to find out where is the problem, mc starts instantly...I will probably set: alias mc="truss -o /dev/null /usr/local/bin/mc" :-)

i have 1 bhyve 1 jail which both should have their own mac address, as they have their own ip address

for some reason my 'pkg search' isn't showing the right results anymore. for example, even a package i have installed; when i search for it with pkg search, it's not being listed. i've ran pkg update and pkg upgrade too. no idea what happened. it used to display them just fine a week ago - that's how i installed the pacakges to begin with.

voy4g3r2: on the bridge. not sure what would be causing the problem if you don't have any connected host, jail etc on re0 (possibly somewhere else on your networK) that is using that MAC address

well my rotuer has a dhcp entry to "give out" an ipaddress by mac adress

i do not do that anymore.. i statically set one outside of dhcp range because yeah.

and that jail is asking for 2 ip addresses..

The only reason I ask is, this happened to me yesterday. I would use pkg search to find a package and it would just hang and not display any results or it would say not reuslts found.

after a reboot it seemed to go away. Sorry I can't be more help but I did experience something similar yesterday

i think it's just 1 group of packages.

so probably not freebsd's problem. maybe jsut something happened to the packages on the repo

virtual freebsd 13.2 with lots problems after a power loss and a fsck ( pkg coredumps, vim lots of errors, bash Exec format error etc...) any way of fixing this ?

google suggests pkg upgrade -f will force a reinstall of everything.

to get pkg you could try copying the file from the freebsd image? not sure about that.

it was in idle state , nothing was upgrading or running at the time of the sudden host power off

it could be physically damaged

did you manually run fsck from the single user prompt?

yes , fixed 1 or 2 things from journal. system runs from qcow2 on top of zfs ( copy on write on top of copy on write)

Hi there! I'm just getting familiar with freeBSD jails and had a couple questions about if my current plan is reasonable for my use case

Should I keep jails on the same pool as the host OS ? If they are on the OS pool can I mount datasets in other pools ? Should I use nullfs for this ?
