in my jail setup, I have the IPs of my jails added to my real/physical network interface as aliases, but if the interface goes down it seems many aliases are lost until I restart the jails they were for... is there something I can do about this?

mason: right, not vnet. a bridge is a neat idea, I think I'll try that

Is it realistic that process is terminated with SIGSEGV signal because the system ran out of memory?
-
paulf
if the code didn't check the return from malloc is non-null then yes I'd expect a SIGSEGV
-
paulf
similar thing for C++ new nothrow
-
mrtnt
paulf: ok, thanks. Fortunately, I have a coredump and when analyzing the backtrace, then looks like the SIGSEGV was caused by the memset():
paste.debian.net/plainh/48c1e263
-
mrtnt
paulf: I guess in that case one could rule out the possibility of running out of memory?
-
paulf
in that case either malloc failed and the memset is trying to write to NULL or the memset is the wrong size for the allocated memory
-
mrtnt
paulf: ok

So, I'm thinking about setting up a PDP 11 emulator. I know this is #FreeBSD but I'm hoping it's close enough to "be on topic". Anyone know of any tips or tutorials on how to boot into BSD Unix on a PDP 11?

Hmm, I'm wondering if I can run the Linux version on my FreeBSD machine. I always seem to have issues with libraries when trying to use Linux binaries but it's likely an issue between keyboard and chair.
-
rtprio
paste an error message; someone will help if they can.
-
rtprio
you will probably have a batch of linux libraries to install
-
AReal486
I suppose I could try it out on my FreeDOS machine too. It's a 486 so I imagine that should be plenty to run the emulator.
-

It's actually what I'm using right now using ircjr as my client.
