02:49:52 hdconfigure_, For standards compliance there can only be one option and not multiple. Multiple options there is a linux-ism. 02:50:34 Hey all, chasing a speaker issue on my LG Gram (FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE, Meteor Lake-P, Realtek ALC256). Headphones worked but speakers didn't, so I fixed the pin associations via device.hints (hint.hdac.0.cad0.nid20.config="as=1 seq=0 device=Speaker" / nid33.config="as=1 seq=15 device=Headphones") — pcm0 now correctly shows Analog 2.0+HP/2.0 and the pin/mixer state looks right, but speakers are still dead silent even with confirmed data reaching /dev/dsp0. 02:50:34 Turns out there's a disabled _HID=10EC1308 device in devinfo -v — a Realtek RT1308 smart amp on its own I2C bus, separate from the ALC256. That's what actually drives the speakers, and it needs its own driver/firmware on Linux. Doesn't look like FreeBSD supports it at all. 02:50:34 Has anyone gotten an RT1308 (or similar smart-amp) laptop working here, or know of a workaround? Happy to share more diagnostics if useful. Thanks! 02:50:57 * enyc ROARs 02:51:07 rwp ty 03:53:28 zi: no bother, I solved the issue. VLANs were set up correctly, just the debian cloud image I was using didn't request an IP.... 10:57:20 currently i use drm-612-kmod + gpu-firmware amdgpu, i am not using xorg/wayland (just encoding), -> hdmi tv and its tiny, can i use at least 720p or just mode 80 ? 11:06:03 people is there a good desktop-based variant of the fbsd system? 11:06:26 (since the official stock image doesn't include a plug-n-play desktop environment) 11:09:55 quickrr: seems like fonts for vt are in pixels and not in points, so not dpi aware, you can set a bigger font in loader.conf via screen.font 11:10:09 scottpedia: ghostBSD is a distro with a focus on an desktop experience 11:10:32 psycorama: okay what desktop environment does it use? 11:10:40 scottpedia: what is your problem with installing some desktop environment from the repos? 11:10:53 nimaje: i don't know how to (not yet) 11:12:07 it seems like Mate and xfce are supported 11:12:25 okay. I am more or less a mate user 11:12:37 there's documentation for that https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/desktop/ 11:13:08 okay alright 11:13:13 thx for the top psycorama 11:13:20 have a nice day :) 11:13:57 tip* 11:58:58 nimaje: thanks but no luck with screen.font, kern.vt.fb.modes.HDMI-A-1="1280x720" are usable now 13:48:33 stupid question, do you have an opinion of issuing 50 SSL certificates vs issuing 1 certificate with 50 SAN ? 13:49:23 (Let's Encrypt) 13:57:30 if a single service is going to be consuming them, then a single cert with SAN entries is the sane approach 13:57:53 and most software these days supports SAN data 14:00:28 mage: can you use a wildcart certificate? Or are these all different domain names? 14:00:32 *card 14:01:29 Anyone know if I can do a pkg search on the "Latest" repo when I am currently subscribed to the "Quarterly" one? Hopefully without having to switch to Latest? I wanted to look at version differents in ports/packages 14:19:16 there's always freshports 14:23:10 ok so port epoch is the number after the comma. Is the number after the _, the revision? 14:24:19 or do I have that reversed? 14:26:21 this is correct 15:27:45 pertho: pkg search --repository ? 15:28:37 you have to setup a new repo definition for it, and that may not work if you have to disable that configuration because you want to stay on quarterly 15:28:58 pkg-search has to download the catalog and whatnot, afair 15:29:21 freshports is atrocious to navigate 15:29:56 2000 called.. it wants its multi tables website back :D 15:30:16 at least the site isn't 1024x768 :P 15:31:06 (sorry, dvl! :D ) 15:31:24 it should work for disabled repos "Packages will be searched from the named repositories only, irrespective of the configured “enabled” status from repo.conf." but yeah, pkg had some bugs with the --repository for some commands, not sure if they all are fixed, but I throught so 15:31:36 ahh, fair enough 15:32:12 yeah I get that it's early days for pkg.. but what a giant leap over the old freebsd-update 15:32:42 pertho: I'm good with databases and getting the stuff onto the webpage. Style, not so good. Others have offered to assist, but nothing has gone to prod yet. 15:33:33 dvl: yeah my html skill is stuck in 1998 anyway.. CSS is some kind of black magic :D 15:33:56 * kevans likes freshports aesthetic, at least =-p 15:34:20 needs comic sans.. like the OpenBSD sites :D 15:37:17 dvl: I hope it's got caching in front of it and not doing a shedload of SELECT statements on every page load 15:37:33 pertho: It has been caching to disk for years. 15:37:51 static site generation for the win! :) 15:37:52 pertho: https://news.freshports.org/category/caching/ 15:38:14 pertho: first post there on that is 2006 15:41:37 hmm.. news.freshports.org took a while to load. Do you have issues with AI scraper bots smashing it? 15:41:44 could just be my connection 15:42:51 (at $day_job I have to find all kinds of weird and wonderful ways of blocking bots which take down our websites) 15:43:39 Hi, I am getting a lot of segfault in get_locale while using mutt. Sometimes also with tmux. Does anyone have an idea what can cause that? I am using 15.2 on a raspberry pi 3. 15:44:48 Also occurs with vim. 15:47:15 doublemetres: check /etc/login.conf defaults? Maybe they need raising? 15:48:35 What am I looking after ? 15:51:11 15.2? I don't think that's out yet? 15:51:29 15.1 it is. 15:52:35 pertho: scrapers all the time. 15:53:56 doublemetres: without a stack trace or more info, can only speculate what the issue is. If mutt and vim are erroring, maybe some library file corruption somewhere? 15:56:40 pertho: https://hastebin.com/share/axolepibik.ruby 15:57:18 doublemetres: try reinstalling FreeBSD-clibs-15.1p2 and FreeBSD-ncurses-lib-15.1 and maybe even gettext-runtime and see if that fixes vim? 15:58:37 problem might be in FreeBSD-ncurses-lib-15.1 .. mutt and vim probably use that library? (ldd $(which mutt) would tell you) 16:00:14 pertho: I guess "libncursesw.so.9 => /lib/libncursesw.so.9 (0x7b9b0ba50000)" seems to indicate it uses the system one . 16:03:41 Installed ncurses via pkg did not solve the issue. 16:13:27 doublemetres: oh, this sounds familiar 16:14:19 i think you're getting smacked by erratum 843419, https://cgit.freebsd.org/src/commit/?id=f1e8b0ff4e13b52c5e41a5eea3e686410af3dd0b
